Trial Information

Yesterday, June 17, 2026 Billy’s family gathered for a ZOOM call attending a Court Hearing for the Merrill Family’s Civil Case stemming from his 2023 motor vehicle accident.

The hearing is in the Discovery Phase. Court was opened and closed within five minutes. Prosecution had new information about DNA that needed to be reviewed.

Next hearing date is set for July 13, 2026.

This case IS going to trial. It will be either a Judge Jury Trial (the Judge decides the ruling), or a Jury Trial (the ruling will  be decided by a 6-person jury). Prosecution makes that decision.

The family has been asked to consider sentencing options, including the full 10-year prison sentence.
